Programme #42 cannot escape the immense gravitational influence of Douglas Adams – it’s the numbers that tell the real story, after all – and has been pulled out of its expected orbit by an overwhelming urge to explore and if possible explain the Galaxy and indeed the Cosmos more deeply. Or does that just mean that the Starship Outernational is lost and prolonging a course that is going to lead it far out of sense and radio contact into eternal perdition? We don’t expect that this programme will answer that question, or at least not literally, though the view out of the windows may at least itself be spectacular.
