OUTERNATIONAL ARTISTS n°56 – 07_12_2025

Contrary to the usual – and contrary is of course good – this edition of Outernational Artists doesn’t proceed only from the dustier sections of Mr Henwood’s record collection or memory – only the one ‘70s hit single – but contains a lot of new music. Pushing the boundaries of British Folk are the Irish Poor Creature and the English Spafford Campbell, both 2025 albums; where acoustic meets psychedelic there’s Cornishwoman & visual artist Daisy Rickman; and even tho’ it’s not their newest album [that’s for next month], Ancient Infinity Orchestra from Liverpool are in many ways the next step on from Alice Coltrane. Unsurprisingly there are some sounds of the ‘60s, but perhaps you too were unaware quite how genuinely psych/prog multi-platinum FM rocker Steve Miller was on his earliest albums. The non-hits keep on coming!

Contrariamente al solito – e contrariamente è ovviamente un bene – questa edizione di Outernational Artists non si limita alle sezioni più polverose della collezione di dischi o della memoria di Mr Henwood – solo l’unico singolo di successo degli anni ’70 – ma contiene molta nuova musica. A spingersi oltre i confini del folk britannico ci sono l’irlandese Poor Creature e l’inglese Spafford Campbell, entrambi album del 2025; dove l’acustico incontra la psichedelia c’è la Cornishwoman e l’artista visiva Daisy Rickman; e anche se non è il loro ultimo album [che uscirà il mese prossimo], gli Ancient Infinity Orchestra di Liverpool sono per molti versi il passo successivo di Alice Coltrane. Non sorprende che ci siano alcuni suoni degli anni ’60, ma forse anche voi non sapevate quanto fosse genuinamente psych/prog il rocker FM multi-platino Steve Miller nei suoi primi album. Le non-hit continuano ad arrivare!
