OUTERNATIONAL ARTISTS n°57 by Steve Henwood
on air on Sunday, January 4th 2026 at 8 PM and every sunday of January at the same time.
The 57th Variety of Outernational Artists itself contains at least 57 varieties. 57 different instruments? Ooh, he says confidently, there are just bound to be… And of course – as will shorly be revealed by one of those ‘scientific experts’ that lurk in social media advert posts – hearing multiple instruments is jolly good for you, just like eating the maximum different vegetables is. Outernational Artists is good for your health. Possibly not for Mr Henwood’s, he’s seeming quite feeble-minded and unable to make decisions: meaning that he’s only managed to discard half of the still controversial ‘Their Satanic Majesties Request’ and has probably included a bit too much English harmony folk singing, but it does mean you get a good chunk of Mulatu Astatke’s new album and a 2nd instalment of the rather wonderful Ancient Infinity Orchestra. So not really complaining…

La stessa 57a varietà di artisti internazionali contiene almeno 57 varietà. 57 strumenti diversi? Ooh, dice con sicurezza, ce ne saranno sicuramente… E ovviamente – come verrà presto rivelato da uno di quegli “esperti scientifici” che si nascondono nei post pubblicitari sui social media – ascoltare più strumenti fa molto bene, proprio come lo è mangiare il massimo di verdure diverse. Outernational Artists fa bene alla salute. Forse non per Mr Henwood, sembra piuttosto debole di mente e incapace di prendere decisioni: il che significa che è riuscito a scartare solo metà dell’ancora controverso “Their Satanic Majesties Request” e probabilmente ha incluso un po’ troppa armonia di canto popolare inglese, ma significa che ottieni una buona parte del nuovo album di Mulatu Astatke e una seconda puntata della piuttosto meravigliosa Ancient Infinity Orchestra. Quindi non mi lamento davvero…
